Inauguration of The Wilmot Foundation Building Block

A very unparalleled proud moment for Doon School Srinagar, indeed, much awaited, the inauguration of The Wilmot Foundation Building Block in the premises of Doon School itself, was witnessed by the staff, the parents, the well-wishers infront of a galaxy of eminent guests, especially Mr Dave Whatmore, the International Cricket Coach. It was the afternoon of Sunday, May 29th, 2022, when the Australian veteran, Mr Dave Whatmore, arrived amongst us to take part in the celebration of the inauguration of the new edifice of learning, Wilmot Foundation Building Block where the Australian & UK based collaborative pedagogy will be imparted to the students by the specially trained faculty of Doon School.

The first lady of Akbar Memorial Trust, Madam Gulzara Akhtar and Mr Dave Whatmore released pigeons to signify the space to explore liberty that forms the ethos of Wilmot Educational Foundation. This gracious blessing was followed by the unfurling of impressive insignia and cutting the ribbon.

Accompanying this, the dignitaries and the guests were all led into the new spacious building of the school where Mr Dave Whatmore, Mr Showkat Hussain Khan, the Chairman of the school, Mr Mehfooz Aslam, the Principal and Ms Nowsheen Bashir, the Vice Principal of Doon School Srinagar, held a press conference to talk about the mission & vision of Wilmot Educational Foundation, from aspiring to enable all students to mature holistically into flexible and creative thinkers who have to confidence to make a difference to providing a challenging and engaging approach to learning and being at the leading edge of educational practices. They were also briefed about the state-of-art material and methodology that will be adopted as a part of Wilmot Educational Foundation. After the blessing and inauguration of the new block, the welcome bouquet ‘posh-e-guandir' was unwrapped infront of the Chief guest, Mr Dave Whatmore. The flowers of this bouquet constituted an amalgam of programmes that were presented to the Chief guest, the parents, the dignitaries and well-wishers. Students dressed in colourful dresses spread their fragrance dipped in the flavour of entertainment through a variety of programmes. The event commenced with a prayer and a hearty welcome song. The ageless ladishah performance, beatboxing, solo rap and singing, also made its entry into the hearts of the audience. The Principal, Mr Mehfooz Aslam, enlightened the audience with an Annual Report of the school. Regional poshaks combined with a presentation of sports on a ramp walk stole the spotlight along with a bunch of other performances - the students swaying to the Kashmiri Rouf; Brotherhood Song wherein the students fluttered a short but impactful message of unity and harmony; and the last flower of the bouquet presented by the LPD teachers , was a song whose lyrics were penned so indigenously to the nostalgic moments where the parents after long period of closure due to covid came and dropped their kids off to school. Worthwhile to mention, the chief guest was presented with an exquisite memento by the Chairman, the Vice Principal and the Principal and the event concluded with them addressing the audience.
