Baisakhi

Festivals are a source of joy and happiness. Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi is a religious and cultural festival observed across India. The festival, traditionally held on the first day of the Hindu month of Vaisakh, marks the beginning of both the Hindu solar new year and the harvest season in the predominantly agrarian parts of India. Keeping this in mind, Doon School, Srinagar, organized an enticing programme on this fascinating festival to acquaint students with Punjabi culture and tradition, to uplift their mood and make them enthusiastic about it. The programme commenced with a speech, wherein the students threw light on the importance of Baisakhi. Mrinalini from Grade 12th, gained the title of ‘Nightingale of Doon School, Srinagar’, after her soothing voice echoed in the hearts of all the listeners, while she sang a Shabad.
Students were decked up in beautiful attires, and to keep the festival alive, a short play on Baisakhi was enacted, followed by a heartwarming performance of Gidda. The Chairman of the school, Mr Showkat Hussain and the Principal, Mr Mehfooz Aslam showered blessings to the students and a pledge to unite all the communities, to enjoy and respect all the festivals was taken up with great fervour. The school reverberated with enthusiasm throughout the event.
