Nature can be imagined and expressed in a classroom but it cannot be experienced until the students’ feet explore the Mother Nature. Their senses behold what the nature offers. Under such pursuits of educational outing, Class 4th, 5th, 8th & 9th along with their escort teachers visited Dachigam National Park, Harwan Srinagar, on September 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively.
On the east side of Dal Lake, 22 kilometres from Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, is Dachigam National Park. It covers an area of 141 square kilometres. The name of the park literally stands for "ten villages" which is in the memory of the ten villages that were relocated for its formation. Since 1910, the park has been a protected area, first under the control of the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and then under the supervision of the relevant government officials. In 1981, it received a renovation and became a national park.
The enthusiasm and energy was resonating well with the sunny weather. The day started with a look at the enthralled animals, including the leopard, black bears and the brown bear. After that, the students were taken to the Fisheries Department, Harwan, where they had a glimpse of the Trout Culture in Srinagar. The greenery along the journey was both welcoming and serene.
