Doon School, Srinagar, organised an educational tour for Grade III students to Shri Pratab Singh Museum on Thursday, 15th September, 2022 during school hours, keeping in mind the opportunities for the students to explore and experience practically what they have learnt in the classroom.
The Shri Pratap Singh Museum, commonly known as the SPS Museum, is a museum in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The museum which was founded in 1898, is home to a collection of more than 80,000 items from various parts of Northern India. When it first opened to the public in 1898, Maharaja Pratap’s palace treasury treasures made up its initial collection.
The museum gathered artifacts found during archaeological excavations in Panderenthan, Parihaspora, and Awantipura as a result of the Indian archaeologist Daya Ram Sahni's attempts to organise the collection in 1913. Private collectors continued to donate artifacts to the museum, which allowed the collection to expand. Many of these donations were of a domestic or household nature.
The students were interested enough as their escort teachers demonstrated the historical significance of the artifacts.
