Summer is a wonderful time for kids to learn new things while having fun as well as exploring new concepts and fostering new interests. With this in mind, Doon School, Srinagar, held a summer camp for boys and girls, with a variety of fun activities scheduled for the children. The chosen camping location, Sonamarg, was beautifully enticing and completely drew the attention of the campers. Surrounded by beautiful meadows and sparsely snow-capped mountains, the camp site provided the best ambience to learn new skills and also to indulge in such activities which time doesn’t permit in normal course of day.
Girls (classes 4th to 12th) reached the base camp on July 17th, 2022 and the girls were assigned their tents. The trekking distances catered to several age-groups. A bus carrying medical personnel followed the girls the entire distance. The parents were also kept in loop regarding the same. The following morning, girls were told to prepare for the first local hike in and around Sonamarg. With little difficulty, the hike got underway and the weather helped. They had their lunch in the afternoon and once they returned back to the campsite in the late afternoon, they were instructed to stay inside their tents. To the full joy of the young trekkers, the tents and the entire camping ground was illuminated with torches and bonfire. The girls forgot all about their weariness from the day, were provided dinner and then at the end of the day, got involved in singing and dancing around the fire. The next two days followed the same routine. After the camp inspection on 20th July, 2022, the students returned to Doon School on July 20th, 2022 by 3pm.
