The air at Doon School Srinagar was thick with intellectual rigor and youthful fervor as it played host to a prestigious Inter-School Debate Competition. Organized under the aegis of the Doon Dialectical Society by the Department of English, the event served as a vibrant platform for the valley’s brightest minds to clash over one of the most pressing contemporary issues: the urban transformation of their home.
The Motion:
The debate centered on a provocative and timely motion: “Smart City Project: Is the Smart City Project in Srinagar solving more problems than it’s creating – Concrete Promises or Pipe Dreams?"
The intellectual caliber of the debate was matched by the distinguished panel of judges, comprising stalwarts from the academic and literary world:
1. Dr. Lily Want: Renowned academician and former Dean of the School of Arts, Languages, and Literatures at the University of Kashmir.
2. Dr. Tasleem War: A respected voice in English literature and linguistics.
3. Dr. Rasak Annayat: Known for his critical insights and academic contributions.
The event concluded with a standing ovation for the participants, who proved that the youth of Srinagar are not just observers of change but critical thinkers capable of engaging with the complexities of urban development.
